Oh dear. More problems ahead for THE CROW reboot, as Jack Huston has dropped out of the film according to Variety.
It was only back in March that we confirmed the BOARDWALK EMPIRE star was slated to take on the role originated by Brandon Lee in the 1994 film of the same, but had to drop out due to scheduling issues.
“Jack Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on The Crow,” said director Corin Hardy in a statement. “The Crow is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.”
This news comes only five months after Luke Evans also pulled out of the leading role in THE CROW due to scheduling conflicts, and now with Huston withdrawing for the same reasons, this will no doubt be a another blow for the project as the film is currently in pre-production in Wales. Huston’s film commitments include PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and ZOMBIES and the starring role in BEN-HUR.
Relativity Studios is backing the film, and is reportedly eyeing Nicholas Hoult and Jack O’Connell, among others, as possible replacements.
Relativity released its own statement about Huston’s departure.
“Jack is a remarkably gifted actor, and we look forward to working with him in the future,” the studio said. “Corin Hardy has a tremendous vison for The Crow, and we are working closely with him to continue prepping the movie and supporting him as he brings his vision to the big screen.”
So it seems for those who are looking forward to the remake of Alex Proyas‘ dark drama about the resurrection of a murdered young rock star out for revenge on his and his fiancee’s death, will have to wait a little longer to see who will be the next star in line for the infamous role. Since word first got out about the reboot, many actors were also previously linked to the role over the past two years including Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg and Tom Hiddleston.
The original 1994 movie centered on a murdered rock star who is resurrected in order to hunt down his killers. Lee died during the film’s production after he was shot with a defective blank.
