The Crow

It was only a couple of weeks ago that we reported BOARDWALK EMPIRE actor Jack Huston was linked to the lead role of Eric Draven in the long-awaited reboot of THE CROW and now it seems his involvement is definite.

While there has been no official statement from Huston, director Corin Hardy or studio Relativity Media thus far, ‘The Crow’s creator James O’Barr has told Dread Central that the 32-year old British actor (nephew of Hollywood icon Anjelica Huston) “has definitely been cast.”

This is exciting news indeed for those who are looking forward to the remake of Alex Proyas‘ dark drama about the resurrection of a murdered young rock star out for revenge on his and his fiancee’s death, finally getting off the ground after several bumps in the road along the way. THE HOBBIT and DRACULA UNTOLD star Luke Evans was confirmed to take on the iconic role, but announced that he could not longer wait for production to start and moved on in favour of other roles once his contract expired. Since word first got out about the reboot, many actors were also previously linked to the role over the past two years including Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg and Tom Hiddleston.

However, now it seems things are back on the up and O’Barr has confirmed he is “really happy with the choice,” and that he expects the film to begin production “in a couple of months.”

The Crow
Brandon Lee played the part of Eric Draven in the original.

This new take on THE CROW from screenwriter Cliff Dorfman is said to be based directly on O’Barr’s original graphic novel, which was a more sombre, grounded and brutal affair than the flashier 1994 movie from director Alex Proyas.

As it stands, it is believed that the film will be shot this spring in Belgium, standing in for Detroit and starring alongside Huston will be DOWNTON ABBEY actress Jessica Brown Findlay who will likely take the role of Draven’s murdered girlfriend Shelly in flashbacks. No further cast members have been added to the mix as of yet, but if production does indeed commence in the coming months, we will no doubt be hearing of other names on board the long-awaited project.
