The remake of Alex Proyas‘ dark drama about the resurrection of a murdered young rock star out for revenge on his and his fiancee’s death, is certainly experiencing a slow-going process to try and get off the ground and now it seems that Luke Evans will not be playing the iconic role anymore.
F. Javier Gutierrez, Stephen Norrington and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo were all names thrown into the possible director’s mix, but Corin Hardy is the man who will helm the reboot.
However, as the engines seem to be permanently stalled for this project, there has been another setback – Luke Evans, the man who was set to play Eric Draven, has confirmed that he will not be taking on the lead acting role, so that he can pursue other film projects instead.
The Welsh actor revealed to The Wrap that he cannot compromise taking on other roles in order to wait for the production of THE CROW. However, this may not prove to be too much of a concern for Hardy, as he can now choose an actor of his choice to play the infamous part previously played by Brandon Lee who tragically died in an accident whilst making the film.
For some, it may come as a disappointment that THE HOBBIT star will not be playing the part, especially considering how many comparisons were made between the two in regards to their visual similarities – particularly when the 35-year-old actor took on the role of Vlad Tepes in DRACULA UNTOLD.
Before Evans was chosen for the role of the Gothic anti-hero, other impressive names were speculated to take on the part of the vengeful, haunted hero including James McAvoy, Bradley Cooper, Channing Tatum, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hiddleston and Alexander Skarsgard.
We will now have to wait and see which name is thrown into the mix next… This reboot is certainly keeping us on our toes!
