The Matrix 4 Release Moved Back To 2022

It was only a couple of weeks ago we reported how the highly anticipated THE MATRIX 4 movie was looking at rolling the cameras once again early in July, however due to production delays, Warner Bros. has confirmed that the movie release is going to be delayed quite considerably.

The studios have shared that the film, which was slated for release on May 21st, 2021, will now be expected nearly a year later on April 1st, 2022. Warner Bros. also confirmed the delayed releases of TENET and WONDER WOMAN 1984, so it may come as no huge shock to film fans to hear of another highly-anticipated movie receiving the same treatment.

The original THE MATRIX 4 release date of May 21st, 2021 will not remain blank, as instead, that will be the release of GODZILLA VS. KONG. There are also big changes for Robert Zemeckis’ adaptation of Roald Dahl’s THE WITCHES from its October 9th release date and TOM & JERRY has not got away unscathed as it’s Christmas release is pushed back to March 5th, 2021.

Lana Wachowski co-wrote THE MATRIX 4 script with Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell, and is in the director’s chair for this one too. Academy-Award winning cinematographer John Toll (Legends of the Fall, Braveheart) will shoot the highly-anticipated sequel, succeeding Bill Pope who was the cinematographer for THE MATRIX trilogy.

There is very little information known about the plot for the film and it is difficult to predict where they will go with the story. 

MATRIX 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Jada Pinkett Smith (Niobe) as well as newcomers Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Ibarra, Neil Patrick Harris, Toby Onwumere, Brian J. Smith,  Eréndira Ibarra, Andrew Caldwell and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who is rumored to be playing young Morpheus. 

THE MATRIX trilogy has amassed over $1.6 billion at the global box office and with the possible success of MATRIX 4, there is no doubt that number will significantly increase.
