Nooooooo. Say it ain’t so! It was the news that we were expecting, but didn’t want to hear… Warner Bros. Pictures has confirmed that director-extrordinaire Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film Tenet is going to be delayed.

Yes, it is disappointing news, but there is a glimmer of light as the movie has only been pushed back to the end of July, which is great news as so many other films are being rescheduled for 2021!

“We’re especially thrilled, in this complex and rapidly changing environment, to be bringing Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, a global tentpole of jaw-dropping size, scope and scale, to theaters around the world on July 31,” Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, said in a statement. “It’s been longer than any of us could’ve imagined since we’ve seen a movie on the big screen, and to acknowledge Chris’ fans as we count down to ‘Tenet’’s opening day, we are also excited to offer his masterpiece ‘Inception’ in theaters for its 10th anniversary on July 17.”

Although it is sad news for all of us desperately waiting to watch the film, it’s true to say the news is not completely unexpected – and the delay is only for a couple of weeks! As cinemas gradually reopen, this film will no doubt pull in a tentative audience and hopefully that will give studios the confidence to release more movies that are scheduled.

TENET which has been filmed on location across seven countries, is an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage.

Christopher Nolan is directing from his own original screenplay, utilizing a mixture of IMAX and 70mm film to bring the story to the screen.

The movie boasts an impressive international ensemble cast led by John David Washington and also stars Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, with Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
