Indiana

Ever since his return to the silver screen in THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, in 2008 rumours of a new INDIANA JONES film has been circulating around Hollywood. It looks as if a fifth instalment in the popular franchise is indeed going to happen.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, powerhouse producer Kathleen Kennedy (STAR WARS, BACK TO THE FUTURE, LINCOLN to name just a few) confirmed that plans to bring the smarmy, whip cracking, fedora wearing archeologist back into cinema’s around the world are now in motion.

Kennedy had this to say about the return of Indiana Jones, “[An Indiana Jones film] will one day be made inside this company, when it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.”

Kennedy’s statement is far more positive and optimistic about the possibility of a new Indiana jones franchise, contradicting what Disney chairman Alan Horn said late last year. In an interview with Variety he put it bluntly, “We haven’t done anything, we don’t have a story. We need a story.”

Rumours of Harrison Ford stepping away from Indiana Jones have been present ever since 2008. With many arguing that KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL serves as Ford retiring away from the Indiana Jones character.

Chris Pratt Indiana Jones

Last year Chris Pratt was apparently heavily linked to take over the franchise as the iconic character in a somewhat re-boot of the original 1980’s franchise. Chatter around Pratt has now died down, assuming that his is just to busy with other big budget high-profile franchises (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, JURASSIC WORLD, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, THE LEGO MOVIE) to take another one on.

However, it’s still far too early to get excited about the project as Indiana Jones 5 has been in development hell for years, so it’s best not to hold your breath on this one just yet.
