Mission: Impossible 7 star Tom Cruise is hoping production on the movie can recommence production in June, after coronavirus pandemic delays.

Tom Cruise was a man on a ‘mission’ in the months preceding the coronavirus pandemic,  as the actor was busy with the production of Mission: Impossible 7. After a delay in filming, Cruise is now hoping that they can pick up where they left off once again in June – and we hope so too!

Filming ground to a halt back in February as production was meant to take place in Italy, which at the time was the epicentre of the pandemic in Europe. It was one of the first films to suspend filming before, other Hollywood productions quickly followed suit. There’s a chance they might have to relocate elsewhere to resume production once lockdowns are lifted as originally the large majority of Mission: Impossible 7‘s story was set in Venice. According to Variety, Cruise is hoping all systems will go once again in June. At this stage, it is based on ‘hope’ not ‘fact’, as the world is still waiting for the pandemic to die down.

Logistically, it would have to be a safe environment where the production crew and cast would be able to (and be expected to) stick to the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines in place. That certainly would be difficult on a busy film set.

There will be many film studios globally hoping to be in a position to recommence production on projects that have been abandoned mid-process, but at this stage, the future is still widely unknown.

The same can be said for movies in post-production that were scheduled for cinematic release, which have had to be pushed back due to closures. Big budget movies such as Bond: No Time To Die, Black Widow and many more have all rescheduled their movie release dates, but even those are not set in stone during these unusual times.

All we can do is cross our fingers, have the optimism of Tom Cruise and hope for an end to these unprecedented times soon.
