Supergirl

The newest incarnation of the Supergirl costume has officially been revealed as Melissa Benoist steps into the iconic look.

For those of you who are fans of the original movie in 1984, very little appears to have changed in the outfit and the classic look from the comic book series has remained, as seen in the latest photos of Melissa in the red and blue costume complete with cape.

This updated version has the same tone and feel as the latest MAN OF STEEL film reboot, starring Henry Cavill with the classic ‘S’ symbol and gold trimmed mini -skirted outfit. To accompany the infamous outfit, Benoist has also undergone a physical change for her new role, as the brunette known for her role as Marley in GLEE, is sporting a blonder look keeping to the original style of Supergirl.

The series is being brought to the big screen by Warner Bros., who own the rights to SUPERGIRL AND her more famous cousin SUPERMAN. The show will follow a young Kara Zor-El – who escaped Krypton during its destruction to arrive on Earth and be taken in by foster parents the Danvers. After years of repressing her powers and hiding her secrets, Kara’s forced to use her gifts to avert a disaster and then emboldened by her heroics, she sheds her mask and embraces her superhero destiny.

Benoist could not hide her excitement about the role after taking to Twitter to show the world the costume:

Benoist and Slater will be starring alongside confirmed cast members Laura Benanti, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Calista Flockhart and Mehcad Brooks .
