Director brothers Joe and Anthony Russo make a home with Sony as they sign a first look deal…
When their film CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLIDER gained huge success, Anthony and Joe Russo made their way into the world of Marvel Studios and got the green light to direct more movies, but it seems that’s not the only studio desperate to get the boys on board.
According to Deadline, the directing duo have had big news to announce as they sign a first look deal with Sony, here’s what they had to say on the announcement;
“We’re thrilled to make a home at Sony Pictures, and to be partnering with the entire team. The studio has created an environment that is not only collaborative, but truly filmmaker-friendly and we’re excited to begin developing both new and ambitious material with them.”
While this doesn’t mean that The Russo’s are strictly locked into making films for Sony alone, it does mean that their original projects are likely to end up in Sony’s hands rather than Disney. This includes scripts, television series and any other projects aside for feature films, making it look like CAPTAIN AMERICAN: CIVIL WAR will be the last deal they make with Disney.
Still, considering The Russo’s now get to include Spider-Man in CIVIL WAR and Sony will then go on to re-launch Spidey in his own feature film series in a couple of years, it seems like a pretty decent deal, no? The Russo’s deal will star this April.
