Film And TV Now recently spoke with musician and composer Kim Halliday, who wrote music for the recent film I AM GEN Z.

Watch the interview here:

About Kim Halliday:

Always driven by the music, Kim blends stories, trip hop, hauntology and post rock and continues to create music and words to try to comfort and disturb in equal measure.

Previously compared to Bernard Herrmann, David Bowie, Massive Attack and Sonic Youth, his music persists in defying clear categorisation, while retaining a distinct personality.

Babylon” features spoken word and music, sitting somewhere between a music album and an audio story. Covering three momentous events from pre-Christian history – the Hanging Gardens, the Tower of Babel, and the Great Flood, as well as more personal stories about Kim’s mother and grandchildren. Kim explores how stories have been absorbed and subverted by major religions. Like Kim’s previous release, “Desiderium”, the work is semi-autobiographical, mixing historical fact with his own life experience.

The series was released with two parts every two weeks. between January 30th and February 27th, 2023.

Part one talks about the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, while part two tells the bible story of how God gave language to the world in an act of capricious self-preservation. Parts three and four, released on February 13th, return to the Garden to discuss loss and archaeology, while the final two parts, set for release on February 27th, deals with the Great Flood, where the dinosaurs were, and a six-year-old’s view of Heaven.

Kim’s extensive portfolio of music for feature films, documentaries, TV, and theatre is always expanding and his audio tours of Bristol and Bath are now geolocated in those cities (and also available at www.unpleasantville.com). This latest series further develops his skills in weaving truth, fiction, music, and sound design into releases that are both innovative and compelling. One of his recent credits includes the score for “I Am Gen Z” which screened at the BIFA-qualifying Manchester International Film Festival in March 2022.
