Idris Elba

With Netflix‘s reign of film and television consumption continuing to dominate over the last few years, home produced shows like ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK and HOUSE OF CARDS exploded on screen and sent fans into a TV binge frenzy.

Well, Netflix is going one step further by starting to purchase movies for premiere, beginning with Cary Fukunaga‘s BEASTS OF NO NATION which stars LUTHER actor, Idris Elba

Telling the shocking story of a child soldier fighting a civil war in an African country, whose humanity is stripped away by a terrifying and brutal warlord (Elba), BEASTS OF NO NATION was written by Fukunaga and it based on the 2005 novel by Uzodinma Iweala

According to Deadline, Netflix paid around a whopping £12 million for the worldwide rights. It was originally reported that there would be a small theatrical release for the film but according to Variety, four of the America’s main theatre chains, AMC, Regal, Carmike and Cinemark have no plans to release the movie after upset over the films online streaming.

With this news, it’s looking extremely unlikely that our theatres will bag some screenings of the flick – just another excuse to log onto Netflix!

Fukunaga’s recent success with TV series TRUE DETECTIVE hints at what a knockout this movie could be and with the ever talented and exceptionally underrated Elba taking centre stage, we’re seriously excited to check out BEASTS OF NO NATION
