Henry Cavill could reprise Man Of Steel role in upcoming DC Comics movie

Henry Cavill has not hung up his cape just yet…

There has been so much speculation over the last year or so about whether or not we would ever see Henry Cavill don the infamous red cape and appear on the big screen once more as DC Comics hero, Superman – and now it seems we may well get our wish.

Henry Cavill has already appeared in three films for Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe and now Deadline has reported he is currently having discussions about reprising the role!

Cavill reportedly departed the role in 2018, but he has made no secret of his willingness to take on the role once more in a range of interviews. He has openly discussed his enjoyment as the Man of Steel and not it seems a new opportunity could arise. His reprisal would not be through a MAN OF STEEL sequel and Warner Bros. are currently working on WONDER WOMAN 1984 and SUICIDE SQUAD. Also, Superman isn’t expected to make a cameo in Matt Reeves’ THE BATMAN, so potentially Cavill could make a cameo in SHAZAM 2, Dwayne Johnson’s BLACK ADAM or AQUAMAN 2, which are the next productions to be prepped once COVID-19 safety restrictions lift. How very exciting!

Cavill has played the infamous role since he first appeared in the DCEU MAN OF STEEL FOLLOWED by 2016’s BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and 2017’s JUSTICE LEAGUE, which was the inciting point for his potential exit from the role after reshoots caused a rift between the studio and the star as it conflicted with his work on Paramount Pictures’ MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE — FALLOUT.

Fans of DCEU films were disappointed when his cameo in SHAZAM! never came to fruition and one of his stunt doubles took his place without revealing his face in the movie. 

During COVID-19 lockdown, Cavill made a surprise appearance on Zack Snyder’s Vero Watch Party for MAN OF STEEL last week. At the end of that session, Snyder announced that his director’s cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE IS heading to HBO Max in 2021.

Henry Cavill has recently appeared in Netflix’s hit show, The Witcher, which you can still watch on the streaming service now and production has halted on the second season due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
