Gal Gadot has a brand new role that she will be starring in, after Showtime confirmed that the Wonder Woman star has landed the leading role in the network’s upcoming biopic limited series about veteran actress and inventor Hedy Lamarr.

The series will be brought to the small screen by The Affair co-creator/executive producer Sarah Treem, The Handmaid’s Tale producer Warren Littlefield and Endeavor Content, in which Gadot will also be executive producing. The series also marks Gadot’s debut starring role in a US television series.

“The life of Hedy Lamarr was a truly fascinating one. She stood at the forefront of many issues that challenge women and our society today,” said Showtime’s President of Entertainment Jana Winograde. “In Gal Gadot, we have found the transcendent actress to portray the deeply complex Lamarr. And with the award-winning talents of Sarah Treem and Warren Littlefield, this is going to be a special series.”

For those who are unfamiliar with Hedy Lamarr, the popular actress was born in the 1940s in Austria. She is well known for starring in the movies Algiers, Boom Town, I Take This Woman, Comrade X, Come Live with Me and Samson and Delilah, but is recognised more for her inventions.

During World War II she helped create a radio guidance system for allied torpedoes that utilized spectrum and frequency. This has had a massive impact to this day on technology as this same technology is used to enable Bluetooth and WiFi.

At the age of 85, Lamarr passed away due to a heart disease in 2000.

Gal Gadot is certainly an actress in demand, as she can next be seen in the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 and DEATH ON THE NILE alongside Armie Hammer and Annette Bening. If that isn’t enough to keep her busy, she will also be starring in RED NOTICE with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.
