As we are now into a brand new decade and the year 2020 is officially underway, the big screen this year is going to be bursting with many exciting movies, so to celebrate, we have created a list of the top 20 movies to look forward to in 2020.

There is a lot of buzz already around so many films scheduled for release this year from the next Bond instalment in NO TIME TO DIE, to Marvel’s highly anticipated movie, BLACK WIDOW and of course A QUIET PLACE PART II if scary is more your thing!

Take a look at our list, which really could have at least thirty movies in it, but we have managed to narrow it down to twenty. They’re in no particular order, but one thing that is for certain is that we really are spoilt for choice and what a super year at the box office it’s shaping up to be!

No Time to Die

Release date: 3rd April 2020 
Cast: Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Rami Malek, Lea Seydoux, Naomie Harris, Lashana Lynch 

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.  His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology. 

Top Gun: Maverick

Release date: 17th July 2020 
Cast: Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Val Kilmer, Miles Teller, Ed Harris, Jon Hamm

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.

A Quiet Place Part II

Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path. Watch the latest trailer here.

Bad Boys for Life

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have reunited for the long-awaited third instalment of the movie. The Bad Boys Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back together for one last ride in the highly anticipated Bad Boys for Life, where they attempt to take down a drug cartel in Atlanta.

Tenet

Release date: 17th July 2020 
Cast: John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Michael Caine, Himesh Patel, Aaron Taylor-Johnson

TENET which is being filmed on location across seven countries, is an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage. Christopher Nolan is directing from his own original screenplay, utilizing a mixture of IMAX and 70mm film to bring the story to the screen.

Just Mercy

A powerful and thought-provoking true story, “Just Mercy” follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs. Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds—and the system—stacked against them.

Black Widow

The first film of MCU Phase 4 is the Black Widow movie, which has been revealed to be set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War and will delve into the super-spy’s secret past.

Underwater

Cast: Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassell, Jessica Henwick, TJ Miller

The movie tells the story of a crew of underwater researchers who are more than 5000 miles from land and 7 miles deep at the bottom of the ocean. They must scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory in this action-thriller.

If you’re not a fan of swimming, the ocean or monsters then this movie is definitely going to have you on the edge of your seats as it encompasses all three things!

THE ETERNALS is expected to be an exciting addition to the Marvel Universe and they’re a nearly immortal offshoot from humanity who were created by the Celestials. Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden are starring in the film as Thena and Ikaris, respectively. They will be joined by Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, with Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, and Don Lee as Gilgamesh.

In the director’s chair for this one is Chloe Zhao who is bringing to life a script penned by Matthew K. Firpo and Ryan Firpo.

Dolittle

But when the young queen (Jessie Buckley, Wild Rose) falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and discovers wondrous creatures.

We still have a while to wait yet until we see Jamie Lee Curtis returning for the 12th instalment of the Halloween horror franchise, after the success of Halloween (2018).

Godzilla vs. Kong

This is hopefully going to be as exciting as it sounds with two of the deadliest on-screen titans going head to head! In the culmination of the monster-verse, Godzilla and King Kong will square off in an epic battle for dominance as humanity deals with the two’s destructive existence. The film is directed by Adam Wingard and written by Terry Rossio.

Dune

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.

This new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s source material is being brought to the big screen by director Denis Villeneuve, who directed hit movies Sicario and moat recently, Arrival. DUNE will be made in two parts so December will bring us the first. A perfect Christmas present indeed with a cast like that! 

Wonder Woman: 1984

Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah.  “Wonder Woman 1984” will be helmed by acclaimed director Patty Jenkins, and star Gal Gadot in the title role. As previously announced, the film also stars Kristen Wiig in the role of the Super-Villain The Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal.  And Chris Pine returns as Steve Trevor.

West Side Story

Birds of Prey

Suicide Squad’s beloved character gets a spin-off as Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn teams up with Black Canary, Huntress and Detective Renee Montoya to protect a young girl called Cassandra Cain – a future Batgirl in the comics.

Bill & Ted Face the Music

Well here is another reason to be excited for the summer! After 29 years, time-traveling musicians, Bill and Ted will once again be tasked with saving the universe. There had been a lot of rumours about whether or not Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter would be reuniting once again and to our delight, they are reprising their infamous roles!

Mulan
