Fast and Furious 8

It has been a well known fact that Vin Diesel has been championing STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON director F. Gary Gray to direct the next move in the franchise and it seems his wish has been granted as Gray will be helming FAST AND FURIOUS 8.

The confirmation has come directly from the director who tweeted that he will be in the director’s chair for the next installment of the series, which begins filming next year.

Diesel will of course be back alongside Dwayne Johnson, Ludacris, and Tyrese Gibson. Jason Statham and Kurt Russell are also expected to return.

Diesel will also be on double duty as he will also be producing the move along with Neal Moritz.

Gray is certainly a good choice to have calling the shots after successfully bringing the N.W.A. biopic to life in STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. The film not only over-performed at the box office (more than $150 million on a $20 million budget) but drew critical acclaim that make people think the film has a shot at one of the best picture slots at next year’s Oscars.

Universal along with Diesel and Moritz have been hard at work searching for their next director after Fast and Furious 7 helmer James Wan decided to not helm the eighth installment. Universal went back to Justin Lin who had previously helmed four of the installments but his schedule conflicts with STAR TREK 3 crossed him off the list.

At least now that the film has found its director, we can expect the production to commence next spring as originally planned.
