THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake has been rumoured for quite some time and when it was confirmed that THE EQUALIZER director Antoine Faqua was to helm the project, fans rejoiced at the news.
Mega stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt were quickly added to the cast, kicking off an impressive rosta of top talent. Now it appears another huge name in Hollywood is joining the team as Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke is going to be reuniting with his TRAINING DAY director by joining the cast!
The original film told the story of seven brave old west gunmen, who came together to protect a poor town from savage thieves. While there are no details as to just how close to the story Nick Pizzolatto, who will be writing the script, will be staying, with a cast like this, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is certaintly becoming one of 2016’s most anticipated flicks.
This sounds like a great choice for Hawke, who recently found great success staring in Richard Linklater‘s BOYHOOD, which was filmed over the course of 12 years. Hawke has a lot of different projects coming up before THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, such as BORN TO THE BLUE, REGRESSION, IN THE VALLEY OF VIOLENCE, MAGGIE’S PLAN and THE PHENOM; so we’re sure Hawke’s talent is only going to increase before we get to see him up on a horse, donning a Western hat.
If Faqua could hit the right tone similar to the likes of James Mangold‘s 2007 3:10 TO YUMA and The Coen Brother‘s 2010 flick, TRUE GRIT, we could be in for a real treat!
It’s about time Hollywood knocked out another great contemporary Western! THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN will be released sometime in 2016.
