It was way back in January 2015, when we first reported that Emma Watson was set to put on a dazzling yellow ball gown and dance the night away with her beast and now, Disney has finally released the first trailer for the movie and it is as magical as you would expect. It’s a tale as old as time, but BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and the trend of turning Disney classics into live animated movies is rife, but we don’t mind one bit because this is a story that deserves to be retold and we can’t wait to watch the adaptation of the Oscar-winning animated classic.
Yes, Emma Watson is playing the beautiful Belle, however, alas, we do not get to see her just yet in her yellow dress…Â
Bill Condon, best known for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, is directing the remake from a script by Stephen Chbosky, who directed Watson in THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER.Â
Watson is joined in the film by Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere and Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts. Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kevin Kline and Audra McDonald also star.Â
When it was first released back in 1991, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST grossed more than $375 million at the global box office and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.Â
Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken will be re-recording songs from the original film along with fresh material from himself and Tim Rice.
The much-hyped reboot is set to reach cinemas on 17 March 2017, with Disney hoping it generates a similar success to recent live action hits THE JUNGLE BOOK, CINDERELLA and MALEFICENT.
