London Film Festival Will Host ‘Battle Of The Sexes’ In Gala European Premiere

The 61st edition of the BFI London Film Festival has set Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton’s BATTLE OF THE SEXES as its American Express Gala.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES is the second film to be announced at the 61st edition of the BFI London Film Festival with the opening-night curtain raiser will be Andy Serkis‘ directorial debut BREATHE.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that BATTLE OF THE SEXES will receive its European premiere on October 7th in London’s Odeon Leicester Square cinema with screenings of the 70s drama being held on October 10th across the UK. The directors of the movie are expected to attend the event along with Billie Jean King.

The film stars Oscar-winner Emma Stone and Steve Carell. The world premiere for the movie will take place in September in Toronto at the Toronto International Film Festival. 

The film is loosely based on the infamous 1973 tennis match between women’s world champion Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell).

The film also stars Andrea Riseborough and Elisabeth Shue.

We still have to wait a little until the we learn what the full lineup for the London Film Festival is – the details will be released on August 31st.

The 61st London Film Festival will run October 4th – 15th.
