Training Day

It seems another film will likely to be getting the small screen treatment – and this time it could be TRAINING DAY which will become a TV series.

TRAINING DAY director Antoine Fuqua is reportedly in favour of a TV series and is willing the project on. The film originally starred Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke back in 2001 and there is definitely room for the cop drama to debut on the small screen.

There has been no word on whether or not Washington and Hawke will reprise their roles or make an appearance (we would be very pleasantly surprised if they did) but there is definitely potential for an entertaining series thanks to the team behind the potential show –  Fuqua has Jerry Bruckheimer in on the package setting up at Warner Bros. TV.

GANGSTER SQUAD scribe, Will Beall, (who is also a former LAPD officer), looks set to pen the pilot for the show and no doubt we will see real events which happened to him integrated into his work.

Training Day
Training Day movie director Antoine Fuqua is keen for a TV series based on the film.

The TV series will not deviate too far away from the movie premise – a rookie cop (Hawke) in the film is partnered for a day of experience with a hard-nosed, and brutally corrupt narcotics ‘tec (Washington) for a peek into the dark side of policing – however, there will be some changes, as the story will be based in LA and there is talk of potentially switching the ethnicities of the two main characters around.

As it stands, no network has bagged the project just yet, but it’s very likely that it will generate a lot of interest with Fuqua, the man who brought the magnificent SOUTHPAW, helming the project.

Fuqua has already set up a mini TRAINING DAY reunion with Hawke and Washington reunited once more in THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.
