Wes Craven

He was the king of horror and it is with a heavy heart that we report that Wes Craven, the director of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and SCREAM has died aged 76.

Award-winning film director who created the extremely popular NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET franchise passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday (August 30) after battling brain cancer.

Over the years, Craven has become synonymous for his work on horror and slasher films having made his directorial debut in 1972 with THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT.

His work on the big screen continued to flourish over the years spanning decades; Craven redefined the horror genre with his work on such films as NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, SWAMP THING and the hugely popular SCREAM franchise.

In addition to a highly-successful film career Craven was also a published author having released his novel Fountain Society in 1999.

He continued to work for as long as possible, most recently, he collaborated with 30 DAYS OF NIGHT co-creator Steve Niles on his first comic COMING OF RAGE that was released late last year.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with his wife, family, friends and all of his loved ones. Both Craven and his work will be sadly missed.
