This weekend saw two major new movies battling it out for the top spot at the box office.
In one corner we’ve got family-friendly animation, BIG HERO 6 – a story of friendship between child prodigy, Hiro Hamada inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name and featuring stand out comic-book style action, which stars the adorable inflatable robot, Baymax.
Disney‘s latest adventure comes from directors Don Hall and Chris Williams and features the voices of Scott Adsit and Ryan Potter.Â
In the opposing corner is the epic space and time adventure, INTERSTELLAR. This latest visual feast from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, sees the demise of Earth and man-kinds desperate need to flee from their dying planet, with performances from Anne Hathaway and Mathew McConaughey.
But which film was the victor? The winner is… (drum roll) BIG HERO 6!
The Disney adventure managed to top the box office this weekend with its tale of high-tech hero action!Â
The film is an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter), who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi (Daniel Henney) and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriquez) and fanboy Fred (T.J. Miller).Â
When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax (Scott Adsit)—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery.Â
BIG HERO 6 raked in a whopping $56,200,000 this week, with INTERSTELLAR taking on $52,151,000.Â
Considering it’s been months since the last high profile animated film, we’re not too surprised by this result.Â
Interstellar is out in UK cinemas now and Big Hero 6 will be released in the UK January 30th, 2015
