Star Wars fans, today is a good day. The first teaser trailer has dropped for Episode IX. The official title for the flick is: STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER. Don’t waste any more time, feast your eyes on the footage in the video player below.

The title was revealed at a Star Wars celebration event in Chicago, while a teaser trailer was posted on Twitter with the words: “Every generation has a legend.”

Director JJ Abrams was on double duty for this one, as he also co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio (Argo, Justice League).

With regards to the plot of the movie, the director has revealed that the movie is set some time after previous instalment The Last Jedi. In the trailer, that comes in at two-minutes in length, we see a brief glimpse of Princess Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher.

She embraces Rey (Daisy Ridley), while Luke Skywalker’s voice is heard saying: “We’ll always be with you. No one’s ever really gone.”

There will be of course familiar faces back in action in Episode IX. The movie will see  Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Billie Lourd return to their roles.

There will be a sea of new faces who have joined the cast including Naomi Ackie (Doctor Who), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the Rings), Matt Smith (Doctor Who) and Keri Russell (The Americans). They will star alongside Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams.
