Watch British actor David Oyelowo’s portrayal of Martin Luther King Jr in the Oscar-tipped Civil Rights drama, co-starring Oprah Winfrey and Tom Wilkinson.

Selma

The film SELMA tells the story of Americans’ journey towards civil rights, led by Martin Luther King Jr. The film has an impressive cast of British actors, including David Oyelowo as Luther King Jr and Tom Wilkinson as Lyndon B Johnson. Also, to complete the ensemble, Tim Roth, Martin Sheen and Carmen Ejogo.

One of the biggest stars in the film is Oprah Winfrey who has taken on the role of civil rights activist Annie Lee Cooper and aside from featuring in the film, she is also credited as producer. 

The film focuses on the epic 54-mile civil rights marches from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965, which played a significant role in persuading President Johnson to introduce the Voting Rights Act. The pivotal marches were marked by brutal police violence against the peaceful protesters. 

British screenwriter Paul Webb (Four Nights in Knaresborough) penned the screenplay for SELMA and already the film is already considered a frontrunner in next year’s Oscars.

SELMA is released on February 6, 2015.
