Far From The Madding Crowd

A new teaser trailer and poster have been released for the upcoming film FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD, which is released in Spring 2015.

Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts not just the attention of one, but three, yes, three very different suitors:  Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching wilfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor.  This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

Juno Temple and Jessica Barden will also star in the tragic romance.

Directed by Thomas Vinterberg and with David Nicholls penning the script, the trailer certainly does not disappoint.

Having already been previously adapted for the big screen by John Schlesinger in 1967, starring Terence Stamp, Peter Finch and Alan Bates as the tangled lovelorn trio pursuing Julie Christie, judging from the trailer, this new version looks set to bring as much love, passion and tragedy as its predecessor – and we can’t wait!

FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD hits cinemas in the UK and US on May 1, 2015.

  1. It’s not quite a masterpiece and some parts seemed a little rushed, but Thomas Vinterberg’s adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic is gorgeously filmed, romantic, and features a marvelous central performance from Carey Mulligan as the fierce, independent Bathsheba.
