The world of social media is a wonderful place when actors and actresses drop great news for us to enjoy. This time around, it was the turn of Vin Diesel who has taken to Instagram to share the news that John Cena has joined the cast of Fast & Furious 9.

In a video clip posted to Instagram, Diesel opened up about various things, including his connection to the late Paul Walker, who starred in the first six franchise films. He then goes on to discuss John Cena joining the popular franchise.

So, another former pro-wrestler has joined the popular franchise with Cena boarding the cast of Fast & Furious 9, following from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s lead. It will be interesting to learn more about Cena’s character and whether or not he will bring his trademark comedy to the role, which he has been so successful with since transitioning to Hollywood.

Fast & Furious 9

In 2001, Universal Pictures released The Fast and the Furious, a crime action film in which Walker’s Brian Conner infiltrates a Los Angeles car hijacking organisation run by Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto.

The first franchise film was directed by Rob Cohen, based on a script that was co-written by David Ayer (Suicide Squad). Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster rounded out the main cast, and reprised their roles in subsequent installments. Produced for $38 million, The Fast and the Furious made over $207 million at the box office and inspired seven sequels. Nothing good lasts forever, so Diesel has confirmed that the franchise will end after the 10th film, with the ninth set to release on May 22, 2020.

We are looking forward to watching the upcoming spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham reprising their franchise roles. Idris Elba also stars in the movie and will no doubt light up the box office too.
