With FAST AND FURIOUS 7 still conquering the worldwide box-office, earning just a little over $1.16 billion during its first four weeks of general release making it the highest earning film of the year so far, it really shouldn’t be a surprise that Universal have just announced that FAST AND FURIOUS 8, the next installment in the adrenaline fuelled franchise, will be dropping on April 14th, 2017.

The announcement was made at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas Nevada. Vin Diesel took the stage to publicise the eighth installment within the franchise cueing excitement from the audience and fans worldwide.

During his speech on stage, Diesel made this remark as what to expect for the eighth film in the series; “I swear to you and to my brother upstairs (referencing the late Paul Walker, who died during production of Furious 7) we are going to make the best movie you’ve ever seen.”

Although FAST AND FURIOUS 8 WAS heavily teased by the stars Vin Diesel and Ludacris, this is the first official confirmation that the project is indeed moving ahead.

There is currently no news as to whether FAST AND FURIOUS 7 director James Wan will return to direct FAST AND FURIOUS 8. He’s hard at work directing the follow-up to the 2013 horror hit THE CONJURING, which he also directed. Wan is also supposedly attached to direct DC’s AQUAMAN.

The Fast and Furious Franchise started over thirteen years ago with THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS and has since gone on to be one of the most beloved and profitable cinematic franchises in recent memory.
