The Danish Girl

All eyes this weekend have been firmly placed on the Venice International Film Festival, which has enjoyed premiering some immense films including EVEREST, BLACK MASS, SUFFRAGETTE and on Saturday, it was the turn of the highly anticipated THE DANISH GIRL to take centre stage.

In Venice, Eddie Redmayne unveiled his latest masterpiece THE DANISH GIRL on Saturday, accompanied by his wife Hannah Bagshawe at the Venice Film Festival red carpet premiere.

Redmayne, who took the Oscar for his portrayal of the professor in last year’s THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING – attended the festival where he watched his performance as a transgender pioneer.

He was joined on the red carpet by his co-stars Alicia Vikander, who plays his wife Gerda in the film and Amber Heard, Matthias Schoenaerts and director Tom Hooper.

Throughout the day, the cast and creators had been busy doing the media rounds ahead of the premiere participating in an official photo call and press conference.

The movie, set in the 1920s, is a love story about how Wegener, a painter, was persuaded by his wife Gerda Waud (Vikander) – who was also an artist – to pose for her in women’s clothes after one of her models failed to show. In time, he became Lili and started on the transformation into a woman.
