During Sunday night’s 54th annual Super Bowl, a brand new game spot dropped in for Top Gun: Maverick. In the new footage we see the titular character played by Tom Cruise has made a new enemy. Feast your eyes on the footage in the video player below:
There’s no denying that the first film TOP GUN was a global success and we were so happy when we heard talk of there being a sequel, which has been in development since 2010!
Of course, what makes the sequel perfect is Tom Cruise is back in TOP GUN: MAVERICK, but what we would like to know is, are you sure it’s not a prequel? Tom Cruise has not aged one bit!
In the new footage, we see Miles Teller who plays Bradley “Rooster” Brasdshaw (who is the son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw) telling Cruises’ Maverick:
“My Dad believed in you, I’m not going to make the same mistake.” He is if course referring to the deceased wingman to Cruise’s character.
After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose”.
Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.
Joining Cruise in the sequel is Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman with Ed Harris. Calling the shots on this one is Joseph Kosinski with Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison on producer duties.
The original Top Gun was directed by Tony Scott in 1986, making over $350m worldwide and we have a feeling that the sequel will be just as popular, if not more so!
What do you think of the brand new game spot for the movie? Will you be watching this film when it arrives in cinemas? As always, we like to know your thoughts, so leave a comment below, tweet us @filmandtvnow or drop us a comment on our Facebook page.
