Better the devil you know…
Deadline reports that Tom Ellis has been cast in the role of the titular protagonist in Fox’s LUCIFER pilot ordered earlier this month.
The actor is best known in the US for playing a morally dubious physician in RUSH, and Ronin Hood in fairy tale drama ONCE UPON A TIME. On British television he is well known for roles in: DOCTOR WHO, EASTENDERS, and MIRANDA.
A character description reveals that in the pilot Lucifer is ‘bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, [he] resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous and shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.’
Lucifer is inspired by DC/Vertigo comic book series of the same name written by Mike Carey, which ran for 75 issues published between 2000 and 2006.
The pilot is written by Tom Kapinos and will be directed by Len Wiseman.
