Tom Cruise

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION has only just been released in cinemas worldwide today and it seems as if Tom Cruise is already hard at work creating the next instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise.

During an interview on The Daily show with John Stewart, Cruise admitted that he is already hard at work developing the sixth instalment within the popular action spy series.

“We’re starting to work on it now,” Cruise confirmed to Stewart. “We’ll probably start shooting it next summer.”

If Cruise is to be believed, this means that Paramount Pictures, distributors for all of the previous films, have already green-lit MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 before the film has even opened. It would also mark the shortest time in between films in the almost 20-year-old franchise, with a gap of only two years.

This early announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of the Mission Impossible series. Due to the phenomenal critical reception that greeted the fourth film GHOST PROTOCOL when released in 2013, and when the ROGUE NATION’s trailer went viral earlier this year (mostly down to Cruise and the INSANE plane stunt that has featured heavily in the advertisement campaign for the film), its clear to see that audiences are keen to see more from Cruise and his Impossible Mission Force. Mission-Impossible-still

Paramount have neither confirmed nor denied Cruise’s statement.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and co-stars Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Ferguson and opens today in cinemas around the world.

The cast and creators have been on promotion overdrive lately and you can watch Tom Cruise and his fellow co-stars interviews from the premiere in London here.
