In a galaxy far, far away…a new story is about to begin.

Star Wars fans have long awaited a live-action TV series that explores the franchise’s wider universe.

After years of silence in relation to Star Wars:Underworld; a proposed series set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and focus on the criminal element of Coruscant.

In March 2018, Lucasfilm hired Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau to produce and write the first Star Wars live-action TV series for Disney’s new streaming platform.

For most of the year, details surrounding the project have been scarce. With Favreau only revealing that the series would use motion capture and begin three years after the end of Return of the Jedi.

But this week, Favreau took to Instagram to reveal the series title and tease its direction:

Star Wars - The Mandalorian

The Mandalorians are a warrior people hailing from the planet Mandalore, who often found work as mercenaries and bounty hunters. They’re a prominent feature of the Star Wars expanded universe, and played major roles in Star Wars:The Clone Wars and Rebels. Star Wars most famous bounty hunters Jango and Boba Fett, wear the Mandalorians distinctive armour.
