As much as we’re sad to see ONCE THE MUSICAL close at the Phoenix, we’re also excited to see BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM make its theatre debut when it opens in June.

When we first heard about BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM being transferred to the stage, we have to admit we were a little apprehensive, but also curious as to how this would be done – especially as it was originally a film about football. Alas, the casting has now been announced and we’re very excited.

BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM is adapted to the stage and directed by the films director Gurinder Chadha with music and lyrics by Charles Hart and the simply brilliant, Howard Goodall.

Taking on the lead role of Jess, an Indian girl who loves to play football, is Natalie Dew. She is mostly known for her roles in TWELFTH NIGHT and HAMLET.

Lauren Samuels is no stranger to theatre having starred in both GREASE and WE WILL ROCK YOU in the West End and she will now take on the role of Jules, Jess’ best friend and fellow football fan.

The star of SWEENEY TODD and MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, Jamie Campbell Bower will play Joe, Jess and Jules coach.

Joined by supporting cast members Ronni Acona, as Paula, Jules mum, Preeya Kalidas in the role Jess’s sister Pinky, with Jamal Andreas as Tony and Tony Jayawardena and Natasha Jayetileke as Jess’s parents Mr and Mrs Barhma.

Bend it Like Beckham is booking at the Phoenix Theatre until 11th July 2015.
