To see or not to see: that is the question? We have a feeling we already know the answer…
Fear not those of you still nursing broken hearts from the disappointment of not being able to see Benedict Cumberbatch live on stage at the The Barbican theatre later this year in HAMLET, as there is now the opportunity to watch him live via the big screen.
In recent years, the initiative of broadcasting productions live or pre-recorded into cinemas has been a great device. Many are given the opportunity to watch their favourite plays and actors in productions, which they may not be able to get to or because they have sold out and once again another production will be broadcast onto the big screen and no doubt it will be very popular.
Due to unprecedented demand, The Barbican are screening National Theatre Live’s production of HAMLET in their three cinemas as well as their theatre, giving fans the chance to watch the sold-out show live. Tickets will go on sale to Barbican members on Monday 16th at 9.30am at £16, while tickets will be available to non-members on Tuesday 17th at the same time, but at £17.Â
This will come as a great relief to fans who were disappointed when tickets for the theatre production went on sale last August and The Barbican sold their entire allocation of tickets in just over seven hours. More than 30,000 fans were already queuing online when the box office opened. Â
Besides being one of William Shakespeare‘s most popular plays, one cannot deny that the demand for tickets may be due to the leading man… Benedict Cumberbatch. He will play the title role in Lyndsey Turner’s production of HAMLET, which will begin performances on August 5th, 2015, with opening night on August 25th at 7pm.Â
Cumberbatch will be walking the stage in the famous tragedy playing the Prince of Denmark who rages against war, family and existential demons for 12-weeks, concluding on 31st October 2015.
