William Shatner is so ingrained on the cultural consciousness as a certain Starfleet Admiral-cum-Captain from a certain Sci-fi show which goes where no man has gone before (although Jimmy Greaves pointed out in his biography that he never could understand the meaning of it, as they always seemed to meet somebody on their travels over that iconic five year mission!)

It is also easy to forget that Shatner is still an incredibly talented and skilled actor who has done some great work away from the bridge of the Enterprise, notably his turn as Rack Hansen in John Bud Cardos’ cult spider fest KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS (1977), which remains one of the best arachnophobic yarns prior to Frank Marshall’s 1990 hit ARACHNOPHOBIA.

Shatner lends his acting and name to a brand-new horror yarn, THE TOMB: DEVIL’S REVENGE, in which he plays a rather crazy ex-soldier and grandparent who has to deal with his immediate son’s cowardly turn when he returns from an archaeological expedition in a mysterious labyrinth of caves and discovers an ancient relic in a place where major human sacrifices were taking place.

Inevitably, the son suffers mental relapses and hallucinations which cause him to crash his car and punch his own son’s best friend at college and to threaten the boyfriend of his daughter. His wife is understandably concerned and worried.

Grandpa Shatner forces the son to return to the cave where he discovered the relic and deal with the demons he has been seeing – or else people will die!!! …..

If you are a fan of films like CANDYMAN and THE EVIL DEAD, then this one is definitely for you. It’s a little late-in-the-day admittedly, but the presence of Shatner in the mix is certainly going to be a valid reason for checking it out. There’s gore galore and a few watchable moments of horror, which makes it all the more entertaining in a film that will certainly do the business on multi-platform release.
