The Spider-Man Shortlist: Who Are The Possible Wall Climbers?

We are potentially looking at the brand new SPIDER-MAN, but who will it be that dons the infamous costume and will be seen climbing up buildings near you..? well not quite, but you get the idea!

The Hollywood Reporter has information that Marvel and Sony have recently screen tested six young actors for the role: Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer and Charlie Rowe.

The new SPIDER-MAN is set to make his first appearance in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, before starring in his own standalone film in 2017.

Most recently, the role has been played by Andrew Garfield, who will not be reprising his role in order to introduce a fresh, new face for Peter Parker, who will be a high school student in the new run of Marvel films.

Let us introduce you to the six young possible Spidey’s….

Tom Holland

Holland was part of the first actor shortlist and he’s still in consideration. You may remember him from THE IMPOSSIBLE with Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. You will get a chance to see him once more on the big screen later this year in IN THE HEART OF THE SEA with Chris Hemsworth.

Judah Lewis

We think he has such an adorable and innocent face to play the web throwing superhero. He is starring in Jean Marc-Vallee’s DEMOLITION which is out later this year and he also plays a young Johnny Utah in the remake of POINT BREAK.

Matthew Lintz

Lintz will appear in upcoming animation movie PIXELS this summer as Adam Sandler’s son and after television roles in REVOLUTION and SLEEPY HOLLOW he could tee up very well as a young Spidey.

Charlie Plummer

For those of you who are regular viewers of BOARDWALK EMPIRE, you make recognise Plummer’s face. He is also a series regular role on a show called GRANITE FLATS.

Asa Butterfield

In my eyes, I will always remember Butterfield as Mordred in the popular BBC series MERLIN, but he has been racking up his CV with other impressive projects. He is possibly best known for leading roles in Holocaust drama THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS and Martin Scorsese‘s fantasy film HUGO. The young Brit has also appeared in NANNY MCPHEE RETURNS and ENDER’S GAME. 

Charlie Rowe

Rowe had a lead role in Fox’s canceled series Red Band Society, and he’s also appeared in THE GOLDEN COMPASS, PIRATE RADIO and NEVER LET ME GO.

Now that these screen-tests have been completed, no doubt there will be confirmation soon as to who has won the role, as CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is already in production in Atlanta, so they need to get this role cast so Spider-Man can make an appearance in the film.
