The wait is finally over, we now know the name for the sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY thanks to the lovely folks at Twentieth Century Fox, who have revealed the official title: INDEPENDENCE DAY RESURGENCE.
They have also treated us to the first photos from the set and a video from the on set press conference highlights, which saw Roland Emmerich, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Vivica A. Fox, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Angelababy all in attendance.Â
Almost two decades later, the film will be released in 2016, nearly 20 years after the original broke box office records for the biggest opening of all time. (THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK BROKE that record one year later, extra incentive for Independence Day Resurgence to try to steal Jurassic World‘s new box office milestone.)
After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
