“2015? You mean we’re in the future?!” The 21st October 2015 is finally here – a significant date for dedicated fans of 80s trilogy BACK TO THE FUTURE.
BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II follows on from the first film and sees the time travelling duo make their journey in Doc’s DeLorean to the year 2015 to stop Marty’s future son from imprisonment. And 26 years to this day at exactly 4:29PM, Doc and Marty will arrive!
To celebrate Back to the Future Day, PepsiCo has released a limited edition of Pepsi Perfect, a collectable bottle modelled from the one which Marty purchases at the diner in the 1989 sequel. Lou Arbetter, PepsiCo’s Senior Director of Marketing said, “We wanted to take advantage of the fact that Marty travelled to the future, to this month, and wanted to actually come out with the product.“
But it’s not just PepsiCo who’s getting involved in the celebrations. Arx Pax will be releasing the first ever Hendo Hoverboard and hover developer kit later this month. Founded by Greg and Jill Henderson, the invention was developed last year thanks to donations through Kickstarter which totalled $510,590, overtaking their $250,000 goal.
Toyota have also reunited the sci-fi’s leading men, Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, to discuss what the movie correctly predicted. Sitting opposite each other in a breakfast diner, Lloyd touched upon 3D movies – in the film Marty encounters a hologram shark advertising the cinema showing of Jaws 19, which Universal Pictures have now created and released a parody trailer for.
