Yabba Dabba Doo! Warner Bros. Animation and Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions are bringing back everyone’s favourite Stone Age family in a new primetime animated adult comedy series, The Flintstones.

Based on an original idea featuring classic The Flintstones characters, which might include: horrible boss and man-of-many-first-names Mr Slate, floating alien The Great Gazoo, and hundreds of prehistoric creatures that double as household appliances.

A children’s show focusing on the lives of Pebbles Flintstone and Bamm-Bamm Rubble is set to debut later this year.

Hanna-Barbera’s The Flintstones aired from 1960-1966 on ABC, running for 150 episodes over six seasons. Set in a comical, satirical version of the Stone Age that resembles 20th Century suburban America, the series chronicles the misadventures of the Flintstones, and their next door neighbours/best friends, the Rubbles. Fred and Barney are the accident prone, bowling loving caveman; Wilma and Betty their long-suffering wives; unruly children Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, and your average family pets Dino (a dinosaur), Baby Puss (a saber-toothed cat), and Hoppy (a hopparoo).

The Flintstones

There have been numerous attempts to create new incarnations of the show over the years, including: several TV specials, The New Fred and Barney Show, The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, and two live-action films. Eight years ago, a remake from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was given a straight to series order by Fox but the project was scrapped due to his overly busy schedule.

This new take on The Flintstones doesn’t have a network attached to it yet but a potential destination could be WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming platform HBO Max.
