Stop everything! Find your aviators and sit back and relax because Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first trailer and poster for the upcoming movie, TOP GUN: MAVERICK… and it will take your breath away *cue the music*. Feast your eye on the footage in the video player below alongside the brand new poster.
There’s no denying that the first film TOP GUN was a global success and we were so happy when we heard talk of there being a sequel, which has been in development since 2010! Now our year really has been made because the first trailer has dropped and we have enjoyed every second of the two-minutes-and-fourteen-seconds footage.
Of course, what makes the sequel perfect is Tom Cruise is back in TOP GUN: MAVERICK, but what we would like to know is, are you sure it’s not a prequel? Tom Cruise has not aged one bit!
Speaking of the man of the moment, Tom Cruise surprised Hall H in San Diego as the Top Gun: Maverick official trailer soared at Comic-Con 50!
Whilst at the event, he introduced the footage to the eager crowd, which shows him reprising his role as Maverick. In the new instalment, he faces more modern challenges in the form of drone technology and fifth-generation fighters. During discussions, he referred to the film as “a love letter to aviation”.
Joining Cruise in the sequel is Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman with Ed Harris. Calling the shots on this one is Joseph Kosinski with Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison on producer duties.
In the trailer, we see how Maverick is reluctant to progress up the ranks despite the encouragement of his senior, played by Ed Harris. There are new faces for this one, as we meet Miles Teller’s character who plays the son of the late Goose, played by Anthony Edwards in the original back in 1986, who becomes Maverick’s protege. It is also great to see the return of Val Kilmer who plays Iceman.
The original Top Gun was directed by Tony Scott in 1986, making over $350m worldwide and we have a feeling that the sequel will be just as popular, if not more so!
