Thanks to the roaring success of both THE INBETWEENERS movies, the British film industry is currently working hard to turn any form of television sitcom into big screen adaptation. Following up from last year’s MRS. BROWNS BOYS DA MOVIE and the upcoming BAD EDUCATION MOVIE, it’s important to remember that its not just modern sitcoms that are getting the big screen treatment as next year will see the release of DAD’S ARMY THE MOVIE.

It’s been 38 years since the last episode of DAD’S ARMY was aired on UK television, however it’s a show that remained part of our collective consciousness passed throughout generations, which is why we can assume that BBC films thinks that a film adaptation of the original series is due.

With a cast that would put many skeptics to shame, DAD’S ARMY will star Toby Jones as the bumbling Captain Mainwaring, Michael Gambon as Private Godfrey, Bill Nighy as Sergeant Wilson, Danny Mays as Private Walker, Tom Courtenay as Lance-Corporal Jones, Bill Paterson as Private Frazer and Blake Harrison as Private Pike. A new addition to the cast will be Catherine Zeta Jones as Rose Winters – a journalist.

The big screen adaptation is being helmed by Oliver Parker, whose previous work includes THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, ST. TRINIAN’S and JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN, who has reunited with Johnny English screenwriter Hamish McColl to write the script.

The plot will shift the story from the show’s mid Second World War setting and move it to 1944 just as the war was about to end. The home guard are facing a low in moral, until a new female journalist comes to write a report on the gang, while news of a German spy puts everyone in the platoon on edge.

DAD’S ARMY hits cinemas February 5th, 2016.
