The gripping three-part BBC series THE DRIVER, follows Vince (David Morrissey) whose life is turned upside down as he tries to escape from his mundane taxi driver life.
By getting involved in a criminal gang, Vince’s morals and empathy begin to surface as he realises what he has got himself and his family into. He has fallen into a rut and has tired of his job as a taxi driver. Needing a dose of energy and excitement in his life, his calm, boring world changes when his old friend Col (Hart) resurfaces after a six-year stretch in prison. The series starts with a fast paced, exciting car chase that has the audience immediately hooked and there is no telling what would happen to Vince at the end, as he is confronted with a life-threatening situation that he can’t overlook, setting in motion a series of events that puts not only him, but his family in grave danger. When the police come knocking, Vince must make a deal, risking his life to save his family.
Written by Clocking Off’s Danny Brocklehurst, the series opens one’s eyes to the violence and the aftermath of getting involved in a criminal gang and how a person’s life can drastically change by making one regretful decision. Not only does the series contain fast-paced action, but there are also some more emotional and thought-provoking scenes, which show that Vince and his family have had their share of past problems, from their martial relationship, to the disappearance of their son. You can’t help but empathise with the lonely father and the confused husband and the predicament he has knowingly landed himself in.  Morrissey’s performance will have you rooting for Vince’s success – and his safety, as he battles through the duality of his complex life.
Morrissey is superbly supported on screen by Ian Hart (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone), Claudie Blakley (Pride and Prejudice), Colm Meaney (The Damned United) and Sacha Parkinson (My Mad Fat Diary), who as a whole are a fantastic ensemble that bring to life their characters brilliantly and without a doubt, they have created one of the most gripping TV series that will reel you in from the onset.
Directed by Jamie Payne (The White Queen), THE DRIVER is a thought-provoking, gripping story of an ordinary man who makes wrong decisions for the good of his family. The series is a must-see for anyone who enjoys a thrilling, exciting and gripping drama.
