James-Mangold_v2

The pressure is on for THE WOLVERINE director James Mangold as his up and coming THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY gets pushed back to next year after THE WOLVERINE sequel wraps up.

According to Deadline, Christian Bale‘s recent knee injury has affected his ability to jump straight into the highly physical role. Mangold was hoping that the Travis McGee flick would turn into a full franchise and therefore won’t run the risk of losing Bale as his leading man.

With the third WOLVERINE movie beginning production in early 2016, there’s a good chance we won’t see the John D. MacDonald adaptation in theatres until late 2017 or even early 2018.

With Bale at the centre, THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY tells the story of Travis McGee, a ‘salvage consultant’, and is the first of twenty-one novels from MacDonald. With a screenplay from Dennis Lane, GONE GIRL star Rosamund Pike is still attached to the project.

Keep and eye out for more news of the exciting THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BYE!
