“Dheepan” wins Palme d’Or; Rooney Mara, Emmanuelle Bercot and Vincent Lindon take acting honours
It has finished as quickly as it came. It is time to say goodbye to the 68th annual Cannes Film Festival and congratulations to its big winners.
French director Jacques Audiard’s DHEEPAN is the best film of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival winning the Palme d’Or award, as voted by the jury headed by Joel and Ethan Coen, which was announced on Sunday.
The drama tells the story of a former soldier, a young woman and a child who pose as a family to escape the civil war in Sri Lanka.
Rooney Mara from CAROL and Emmanuelle Bercot from MON ROI were named winners of the best actress award.
Also coming up trumps at the ceremony is SON OF SAUL, the acclaimed Holocaust drama from first-time filmmaker Laszlo Nemes, which has won the Grand Prix (runner-up) award.
The ceremony also included the presentation of an honorary Palme d’Or to French director Agnes Varda.
