Taika Waititi, the New Zealand filmmaker of Jojo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok, will direct a new Star Wars film
The news that Taika Waititi is definitely going to co-write and direct a new STAR WARS film may not come as a shock to many after so much speculation, but it has come as an absolute delight for the JOJO RABBIT Oscar-winning filmmaker.
The director could not hide his excitement as he confirmed on May 4th – affectionately known as Star Wars Day, that he is indeed going to helm the the sci-fi adventure project. We knew it!!!
The news was announced on social media via the official Star Wars handle, which was then retweeted by Waititi.

Waititi will be penning the screenplay with Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho), who received a BAFTA for Outstanding British Film of the Year on the three-time Oscar-winning war epic from Sam Mendes.
Just in case any of his followers missed the exciting news, the Kiwi filmmaker also added it to Instagram sharing: ‘Guess it wasn’t a rumour after all. Psyyyych!

It’s not the first time that Waititi has been involved in the Star Wars universe as he helmed the first season finale and featured in a recurring role on Disney+’s hit spin-off series THE MANDALORIAN.
