Bridge of Spies

Having been without a title for quite some time, Steven Spielberg’s up and coming Cold War drama has finally got itself an official title and they’re going for…BRIDGE OF SPIES!

Having wrapped production a couple of months ago, the film had previously often been called St. JAMES PLACE, but it seems that just didn’t quite back enough of a bunch and we think BRIDGE OF SPIES sounds much more exciting!

In a recent interview with The Daily Pennsylvania, producer Marc Platt revealed the name. Interestingly enough, BRIDGE OF SPIES is actually what they unofficially called the currently named Glienicke Bridge in Germany during the Cold War. During that period, its official title was actually Bridge of Unity and the bridge connected West Germany to East Germany, serving as a location for prisoner exchanges between Western and Soviet powers.

The film will tell the story of the first ever prisoner exchange to take place on that famous bridge. Tom Hanks will star as James Donovan, who attempts to negotiate the release of American pilot Frances Gary Powers who had been trapped by the Soviet Union after his plane was shot down.

The story sounds absolutely thrilling and with a cast that includes Hanks, Amy Ryan, Mark Rylance, Alan Alda and Austin Stowell, BRIDGE OF SPIES is shaping up to be one of 2015’s most highly anticipated movies.

Alongside the release of its official title, it’s been confirmed that Spielberg’s good friend and long time professional colleague, John Williams, will score the movie. Having provided wonderful music for the likes of HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHERS STONE, SCHINDLER’S LIST, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN and WAR OF THE WORLD, we’re pretty confident we’re in for some great music to go with this up and coming flick.

Are you as excited as we are? BRIDGE OF SPIES hits theatres October 16th 2015.
