It is a time of desperate measures – and not just for all of us suffering from lockdown. For the participants of STEALING A SURVIVOR, there are two businesses at stake – and both need a genuine SHOW of strength.

Director Ray Martin plays Ray, called in by his father (George Wendt, CHEERS) with the announcement that he has lost all faith in his own ability to run a good business, in his case a chauffeur-based one which has been superseded by Uber and other more seemingly reliable businesses. Ray proposes a CARPOOL KARAOKE-style idea to bring in high-profile celebrities to be interviewed via a GoPro camera. His first quarry is Kevin aka Thomas Ian Nicholas from AMERICAN PIE who is unaware until Ray discloses that he is being filmed for a series, to which he gets out on the freeway.

Meanwhile, SURVIVOR star Gervase Petersen (playing himself here) is not exactly in a good place with all manner of reasons with the Warhol fifteen minutes seemingly up, but upon meeting Ray at a Comic-Con style convention at a local hotel hears of his new idea, but not totally convinced. However, Ray with help from his brother kidnaps Gervase and holds him hostage, an action that makes the local news. However, the concept of trending on Twitter does have its’ uses for all concerned….

STEALING A SURVIVOR has a nice potential for satire and the comment on instant and past fame, with all involved in this film determined to gain some kind of gold nuggets to help their lives progress, but even at a running time of just over an hour needs a little extra oomph to real achieve what it is trying to do.

The theme of obsessive fame has been explored in works like THE KING OF COMEDY with Jerry Lewis and Robert DeNiro amongst other film, but this is not as enduring a film overall.

Part of the issue is that the film-makers haven’t gone extreme with the idea and escalated it so that everyone loses even more control to achieve the enjoyment of what, in the hands of other directors, could have become a biting satire on the power of fame in these enlightening Kardashian aspirations that some who seek it are guilty of. As it stands, STEALING A SURVIVOR is a little underdeveloped as a film, but has one or two moments.

STEALING A SURVIVOR is available now on Amazon, iTunes, Google TV, Vudu, Fandango and Xbox.
