Star Wars

There is some good news for fans of the STAR WARS franchise after it has been revealed that Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm‘s STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII will finish filming July 22nd.

This information has come about thanks to the film’s cast member, Mark Hamill who took to Twitter to share the end of the Star Wars: Episode VIII filming date. Take a look at his Twitter post in the screen grab below.

As the wrap of the film takes place on Friday, July 22nd, there is very little chance that San Diego Comic Con attendees will be treated to much of a preview of the new movie during the second day of the Comic-Con event.

Never fear though, there are still some events for fans to relish, as all things STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII can be enjoyed at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration in London. Hamill himself will have an hour-long panel, which takes place on Friday, July 15th. The panel will be hosted by Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo and will feature Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY co-producer Kiri Hart, STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII director Rian Johnson, and the Han Solo-directing duo of Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Johnson and continues the storylines introduced in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, sees the return of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.

There will of course be new cast members in the form of Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

Produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski, STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII is scheduled for a release on December 15th, 2017.
