SONY PICTURES have said they will release controversial film THE INTERVIEW, despite numerous threats from hackers.

The film was pulled ahead of its expected Christmas release date after hackers, who go under the name Guardians of Peace, said that cinemas screening it would be attacked. It is believed the hacks are connected to a scene in the movie, which depicts an assassination attempt on North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

However, company attorney David Boies confirmed today that the film would be released.

“Sony only delayed this,” he said in a statement to NBC’s Meet the Press.

However, Mr Boies suggested that THE INTERVIEW may not be distributed in the traditional way. “I don’t know how it will be distributed,” he said. “But it will be distributed.”

An alternative to releasing the film in cinemas could be making it available on Crackle, a streaming service owned by Sony.

THE INTERVIEW stars Seth Rogen and James Franco. It follows a talk show host and his producer, whose trip to North Korea to interview Kim Jong-Un is unexpectedly turned into an assassination mission.
