Stuart Little

Family films have been on a bit of a role recently, what with the success of last year’s superb Paddington being such a huge hit, and it comes as no surprise that another adored children’s novel, STUART LITTLE, is getting a film reboot.

Sony Pictures and Red Wagon Entertainment are behind the remake, which will retell the story of a brave little mouse, Stuart, that is adopted by the ‘Little’ family to cheer up their human son, George, who is bullied and lonely. Although Stuart is unwelcome by his brother George and the family cat Snowball, he soon wins them over and discovers that size doesn’t matter when it comes to the love that you share between family.

Kids who grew up in the 90’s should already be familiar with Stuart Little’s tale, as the mouse first hit screens in 1999. With an impressive cast that featured Michael J Fox as Stuart Little, Hugh Laurie and Geena Davis as Fredrick and Eleanor Little, STUART LITTLE WAS a box office success and spawned to sequels STUART LITTLE 2 and the direct to video animated film STUART LITTLE 3: CALL OF THE WILD as well as a short lived animated television show.

This new adaptation has been reported to be similar in theme and tone to the previous films, which were very distant and removed from the original books written by E.B White. The two studios are apparently looking to create a family friendly film but incorporating elements of a John Hughes movie, which appears to be the current trend in Hollywood.

Douglas Wick is set to produce the film (he also produced the 1999 version), but there is no news on who will star, direct or even write this new adaptation.
