An erotic reawakening and the nightmares of childhood past hit home for a civil partnership against the backdrop of a house auction in Lewis E. Woods‘ dark supernatural drama SOMNIUM.

Jeremy (Anthony Soto) and Elliot (co-writer and co-executive producer Mitchell Peters) seem to be on good terms with one another, but a pill pop seems to unlock far-reaching nightmares in Elliot, partly due to a mysterious painting, ‘Somnium‘, which Jeremy claims inspired the artist from a dream he had. However, even Jeremy is finding the surroundings, which includes items and the location about to be auctioned off, causing him to have sexual urges that could impact on both their lives….

Intriguing mix of dark and erotic, attempting to focus on the deeper themes of supernatural cause and effect in the context of an LGBTQ+ narrative, in the style of THE BABADOOK. Short should be applauded for its’ stylish mix and there is potential for a feature narrative given the opportunity.

SOMNIUM screens at New Film-Makers LA.
